  • Beautiful authentic Japanese restaurant at the foot of Long Street (very easy to miss it, on the quieter end of Long St, and parking is off-street, so probably easier to Uber there). Attentive and friendly service all evening. Wide-ranging menu, lots of veg options. We ordered to share: Nasu miso (delicious!); tempura veg (not amazing but added a nice crunch to the meal); healthy rolls (no rice for the carb conscious... salad vibes with a sesame dip); Chilli bomb sushi rolls (needs more of a kick, but yum!). Lots of ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. Overall a lovely dinner experience. Highly recommend.

  • Obi restaurant is probably the best Japanese restaurant in Cape Town. The staff is super friendly and efficient. There are offering combo for two and platters, sushi was great, and the sweet pudding at the end. Miso soup was tasty too. In overall recommend it!

  • We had an absolutely delicious meal at this restaurant. We usually order sushi at home, but it doesn't compare to the sushi we had here. We had a fantastic meal there. The chef even gave us a special tray with delicious dishes. You have to try this restaurant and try the delicious sushi!

  • I popped into Obi Restaurant for a quick lunch and, as always, it didn’t disappoint. I was craving my favorite Obi Tempura Roll, and it was just as delicious as I remembered—crispy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I also tried the lunch special bento box, which was a fantastic combo of fresh, well-balanced dishes that hit the spot. Despite not having a reservation, I was pleasantly surprised to find a table available. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Obi continues to deliver on quality and comfort, whether you’re a regular or just stopping by. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a satisfying and relaxed lunch in the city.

  • Have always wanted to come here…. Took a while :) And wow it really was an experience… very different kind of place - I imagine that many of the other noodle bars and Japanese restaurants aspire to be like Obi. When we first walked in the we wanted to sit next to friends just at the same table for 20min they on their way out. The guy was very very firm NO YOU CANNOT and then went to go tell his “teacher” - luckily the waitress the served us are up for that sour starter… friendly and great advice :) The sashimi bowl and the noodle soup weee just superb… really The miso aubergine- wow I used to love the ones from La Parade now I know that like their parts braves they are also just imposters… The desert was possibly one of the best sensory experiences in a long time…

  • It was my first time eating at Obi, and what a wonderful experience it was. The food was exceptional, great menu and fresh produce. It was a bit pricey but the portions sizes were value for money. We ordered the combination rolls (sweet kiss), kamikaze, salmon roses, an obi special (forget which one), Japanese beer and sake bomb. The tables are a bit small so next time I’ll stagger my orders. I’ll definitely be back soon.

  • We went to Obi for their bento box lunch special, and it was fantastic. The sushi was amazing, the salmon and tuna were fresh, the tempura was perfectly crispy and the broth was heartwarming.

  • 7 years ago, I met my husband for drinks in town, which led to dinner at Obi — so to say this place holds special meaning for us is an understatement! We booked a table for dinner for the 2 of us one Saturday, at very short notice. Luckily, they had a table available for us. The menu is simple, so we were able to place our order quickly. Service was super efficient, and the sushi was prepared and brought to our table in no time. The sushi—oh my goodness! It made me question almost every other sushi experience I've had. Fresh, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor! And incredibly filling. We ended our evening sharing the Mochi Truffles and Pana Cotta. It was a perfect, spontaneous date night without a single hiccup!
